Shield wall! That was a favorite Viking tactic, and these shields were what they used to create the shield walls. Constructed out of wood and metal, these custom LEGO® shields were great in battle. And always very colorful too! There's rumors going around that little Viking children used to play death Frisbee with them.

These round Viking shields are great, they can be in any color, which is great for depicting variations of towns and villages to have their own color or look. the mini-fig doesn't necessarily need to be a Viking. also the shield is a good size not too small and not big and maneuverable.
I love it that the Viking Sheild is available in such a wide range of colors. The detailing on the Viking Sheild is very nice, but it isn't so ornate that it overpowers the minifigure.
