The Brick Connection A novice Lego fan explores the great brick world of LEGO

Happy 3rd Thursday in November LEGO fans!!

Okay, so that might be my worst greeting yet, but I like it because it means there is only one more week until Thanksgiving! (Or for you non-Americans, one more week until the 4th Thursday in November.)

Thanksgiving is the BEST!!! A whole holiday dedicated to eating crap loads of food!!! (And being thankful for stuff.) You may not know this about me, but I’m a big fan of eating. I make sure to do it every day in fact. With a few short breaks for working and sleeping.

The first Thanksgiving was in 1621 when Native Americans and Pilgrims feasted together to celebrate the Pilgrims’ first harvest in the New World.

Americans welcoming a group of people seeking religious freedom. Imagine that!

Cori! What does this have to do with LEGO???

Well Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season. And for a lot of people that means shopping. Last week I discussed some deals on LEGO. This week, we’re still looking at LEGO-related gifts, but with a twist. I have found an assortment of items for you or the LEGO fan in your life to celebrate that LEGO fandom in all sorts of ways. These are products that are made out of LEGO or for LEGO.

I got the idea to look for these unique products after seeing slippers that were made for parents of kids that play with LEGO. The worst part of being a parent of a LEGO fan is accidently stepping on LEGO pieces. We humans may outweigh those LEGO bricks by a lot, but all those pointy edges feel like torture when pressed hard against the bottoms of your feet.

LEGO teamed up with French advertising agency Brand Station to create slippers with extra padding to combat this problem.

Unfortunately there are only 1500 slippers being made and they are not actually for sale. They will be distributed randomly to people who fill out a Christmas wish list on the LEGO France website.

Such a tease!

Check out all the info and a video of the slippers being made in this Huffington Post article.

Well how about some unique LEGO gifts that you actually can buy, like…

A Lego phone case

This is just one such case I found on Amazon, but if you do some Googling you can find plenty more. It’s actually a great idea for a phone case because LEGO pieces have always seemed quite unbreakable. They’re thrown around and stepped on (with shoes on) and they don’t break. Sounds like a great way to protect your phone and show what a hardcore LEGO fan you are.

LEGO Bins

Storing one’s LEGO can be a huge undertaking; and unorganized LEGO is the WORST! There are plenty of ordinary storage bins out there, but why use them when you can store your LEGO in a giant LEGO head.

Now of course this is not going to store all of your LEGO, but it’s a fun way to store some and then have it as a cool decoration. This storage bin can supposedly hold 1000 pieces. There is even a sorting feature that claims to be able to sort your pieces by their size.

Store and Sort

From the reviews, it doesn’t seem like it’s a perfect sorter, but I’m sure it can be helpful anyway.

Here’s how to use the sorter: “Simply pour your bricks inside, shake gently and the bricks magically sort by small, medium and large pieces.”

If you don’t care about the sorting feature you can buy this storage bin for half of LEGO’s price from a different company

Another awesome LEGO storage/organizer product is a “Toy Storage Bag Organizer Kid Play Mat Portable Lego Organize Foldable Picnic Camping Mattress Shoulder Bag Blue 60 in.” Well, that’s the name of it on Amazon, but basically it’s a play mat that can be used outdoors and folds up with the LEGO inside to become a shoulder bag for easy transportation.

I saw one of these at a LEGO convention one time and thought it was genius. Obviously it’s a cool way for kids to be able to play with their LEGO outside at the park or on the beach. But I think it’s just great for at home. Using it allows for an easy LEGO cleanup, which means parents won’t need those slippers as much.

That is all from me this week and for next week as well. I can’t let my blogging or anything for that matter get in the way of my feasting on Thanksgiving. That would be un-American!!

You know what else is un-American….okay no, I won’t go there.

Thanks for reading! This Thanksgiving I am thankful for all my readers…even though you never give me any feedback, or compliments, or even hateful comments. The point is, you exist (I think) and for that I am grateful. I’ll be back in two weeks!

Until next time….FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Compliments, general feedback, and constructive criticism are welcome. Any haters that are gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate can go step on some Lego with their bare feet.*
