The Brick Connection A novice Lego fan explores the great brick world of LEGO

Hello LEGO fans! Let me be the first to wish you a very Merry Star Wars day!

!!!!!!!

You might be thinking, Cori, it doesn’t come out till tomorrow.

Wrong! It comes out tonight, Thursday December 17th. I have tickets to a 10:40 showing. Why 10:40? Well, the first showing at my local theater is at 7, but I only bought my tickets 12 days ago and tickets went on sale in October. So I will take 10:40.

Apparently some theaters in other parts of the country sold out right away. Fortunately my local theater has a couple dozen showings tonight so there are plenty of opportunities to see it. In fact the theater is staying open all night long with Star Wars showings.

In preparation for this big day I re-watched all of the Star Wars movies over the last week. Yes, even the prequel trilogy. You’re looking at reading the blog of someone who saw The Phantom Menace five times in theaters and thought Jar Jar Binks was hilarious. I was only 10 years old at the time though, so don’t judge me too harshly.

Random thoughts from my Star Wars re-watch: I forgot how much I love Ewan McGregor. Also, I totally believe him as a young Alec Guinness, the actor that portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy. Also, I know we only saw Luke and Leia have one conversation about the fact that their siblings, but all they talked about was their crappy dad. Don’t they want to know about the beautiful, badass woman that was their mother?? (I might have been a big fan of Padme from the prequel trilogy.)

Speaking of awesome characters, if you had asked me a week ago who my favorite Star Wars character was, I don’t know who I would have picked. But now, after my little Star Wars marathon, my favorite character is without a doubt, R2D2.

That adorable little droid is intelligent, passionate, hilarious, and fiercely loyal.

Darn! I suddenly wish R2D2 was real…and human. Because I would totally date him.

Okay, I’ve probably gone too long into this LEGO blog to not actually mention LEGO, so here is a picture of R2D2 made out of LEGO:

This epic tribute to the greatest droid in the galaxy was on display at a LEGO store in Los Angeles.

Funny thing is, this week’s blog was not supposed to be about Star Wars. It was going to be much more in keeping with the holiday season. This will be my last blog post before Christmas because next Thursday is Christmas Eve, and I don’t plan to be in the office very long that day. (It also might be my last blog post for the year, seeing as the next Thursday is New Year’s Eve.)

So since this was to be my last post before the holiday I was going to scour the internet looking for amazing and creative Christmas-themed LEGO creations to feature on the blog. But who can think of Christmas at a time like this?!

Instead, let’s look at these other amazing Star Wars LEGO builds that were on display at the big Hollywood premiere of The Force Awakens the other night:

Here’s another photo of Rey and BB-8

Rey took 143 hours and 14,413 pieces to build, weighs 91 pounds and is 67 inches tall.

BB-8 took 100 hours and 11,368 pieces to build, weighs 66 pounds and is 28 inches tall.

Kylo Ren took over 260 hours and 28,826 bricks to build, weighs 192 pounds and is 70 inches tall.

I believe the master builders at LEGO put these epic creations together, specifically to be on display at the Star Wars premiere. Probably LEGO’s way of saying, hey! Did you know we sell LEGO Star Wars sets? You should buy them!

To which I say, hey! Did you know I did blog posts on the The Force Awakens LEGO sets? You should read them!: Part 1Part 2Part 3.

…and even better, I did a blog and vlog review of Rey’s Speeder!

So what am I most excited about for this new film? To see what has happened to Luke, Leia, and Han of course. We’ve waited 32 years to find out! I mean, I personally haven’t waited 32 years, because I am extremely young…but it’s still unbelievable that we get a continuation of this story after all these years.

And of course I am excited to learn about the new generation of characters: Rey, Finn, and Poe. Hopefully I will grow to love them as much as the original trio.

Well I guess I should wrap this post up and get ready to go to the theater.

Oh wait, I still have to finish my day of work and then wait another 7 hours after that. I guess I’ll just count down the seconds while I wait..

So have a very Merry Star Wars weekend and a very Merry Christmas everyone!
And if you don’t celebrate Christmas, well then it sounds like next Friday will be the perfect day to go see Star Wars for the 10th time. Either way, there’s a lot to celebrate.

I will possibly see you back here on the last day of 2015. Maybe I will post a review of The Force Awakens. I’ll try to make it LEGO-related…

Until next time…may the force be with you!
