If you're paying attention you can see that half of this MOC looks dark and dead while the other half is vibrant and alive. Roy of Floremheim did a great job creating this contrast and there's an interesting story behind it:

Deep in the forests of an ancient kingdom, a powerful dark Necromancer rises to corrupt the land. He casts his spell of dark energy across the landscape, slowly causing a sickening effect on the trees and plants. The rocks themselves begin to blacken...the bark of tree trunks shrivels and dies...and the ground becomes darker as the air you breathe causes you to feel light headed.

There are two knights on patrol in the forest looking for what caused the change and they come across the line between dark and light. They also see the Necromancer, surrounded by his energy. They don't know if they can stop him, but they prepare to charge...
