Now that is a proper shield wall. The star, front and center, is the Viking Shield. Typically made out of timber (as you can tell from the slabs on the shield's face), like many other contemporary shields, then reinforced with leather or metal around the edges for increased durability, this round shield was used mostly by, believe it or not, Vikings! Thanks to this lighter material (compared to full metal shields), it was generally easier to carry allowing its wearer to maneuver without much restriction. Which came in handy for those shield walls or other front line-breaking formations employed by these historic warriors. Available in a slew of colors, there's a flavor for everyone!
