They didn't have metal in prehistoric times, so minifigures had to make do with whatever they could find. In this case, they found bones. And then they serrated them and tied them to a wooden stick to make a sick looking bone spear.

Very nice look for primitive figures; the wrap cord adds just a touch of detail to an otherwise simple weapon. In the claws of your troglodytes or lizard-men, it looks even fiercer.
