The Brick Connection - Short on Time

The Brick Connection  A novice Lego fan explores the great brick world of LEGO

Happy  belated tax day   early Earth day    belated birthday to me!!!

Yes, that’s right. I don’t mind making this all about me.

Speaking of me…I was on vacation Monday and Tuesday of this week. A much deserved vacation I would say, seeing as before this I had only taken a total of 2 days off in the last 7 months (not counting holidays).

But apparently I should never leave because things got crazy while I was gone. Granted it didn’t help that we (BrickWarriors) had a sale over the weekend, which means there were probably triple number the orders we are used to dealing with on Mondays. But still, I should never leave.

And what a roller coaster of emotions! I was in such a peaceful state coming home from my two-day beach trip Tuesday night. Then I get to the office Wednesday morning, see how much work I have, and nearly explode with rage.

Why am I telling you this?

Well because I didn’t have time to do a proper write-up of the topic I said I was going to cover this week. So this blog will be short and random.

A little behind the scenes tidbit for you: I make it seem like I write this blog and post it all on the same day, but that’s a LIE!!!

Usually I at least start coming up with the topic on Monday/Tuesday and then start writing a little. Most of the write-up I do on Wednesday. This involves a lot of procrastinating. An hour of “writing” for me usually gets me about 15 minutes of actual writing. (Sometimes less.) Then I do even more procrastinating/writing on Thursday before I finally post the finished product around lunchtime.

The point is, I did not have time to do all my procrastinating/writing yesterday. And now it is Thursday.

I said I was going to talk about master model builders and other jobs that pay for you to build/play with LEGO, but I don’t have time to write about all that if I want this blog posted today.

Which is too bad, because last week’s blog about becoming a LEGO designer was a hit! I shared it on our Facebook page and nearly 11,000 people have seen it. There were 98 likes, 39 shares, and 8 comments.

But come back next week when I will talk more about cool LEGO jobs. Until then, check out the comment section of last week’s blog where someone who has actually made it to the LEGO workshop shared his experience and advice to other aspiring LEGO designers: Matthew John comment

BUT WAIT! Don’t go yet!

I’m not going to let you leave without some random LEGO-related news/info...

Check out this super cute and amazing LEGO animation video depicting a real-life couple’s love story.

Kevin Ulrich made this to surprise his bride, Celina. Kevin is one of the artists of the Brotherhood Workshop, a group that makes LEGO and clay stop-motion videos. They’ve even done some work for the LEGO Group.

The video is adorable and apparently pretty accurate to real life. Check out this Buzzfeed article about Kevin and his video.

In not so pleasant LEGO video news, apparently there was a nursing home food-service worker that got fired in 2013 for allegedly posting violent LEGO videos depicting his coworkers. He claims that none of the characters were based on his coworkers; just celebrities and fiction, but his former coworkers think otherwise. All of the videos were taken down from his Facebook page, so we can’t watch for ourselves.

Anyway, I guess the reason why this is in the news now is because the guy was trying to get unemployment benefits after getting fired, but the Unemployment Insurance Board ruled him ineligible due to the nature of his firing. He has appealed a couple times, but was again denied last week.

I have an idea. It’s been 3 years since you were fired… find a new job!

Here is the article I read about this if you care to know more.

Finally, an exciting update on some of the LEGO sets being released this summer. The Brothers Brick has some new photos of the boxes for the unreleased sets. The sets are from Star Wars: Rebels, Spider-Man, LEGO City, and the hotly anticipated LEGO Friends roller coaster. Okay, I don’t know how hot the anticipation is, but I’m guessing that people are excited about it.

Check out the rest of the photos here.

And that’s my short/random post, entirely written today. Now I need to finish catching up on all my work. Thanks for reading!

Until next time…I don’t have time to come up with a funny sign-off. BYE!
