The Brick Connection - Game of Bricks

The Brick Connection A novice Lego fan explores the great brick world of LEGO

Hello again blogosphere! I am back from vacation. Please try to contain your excitement.

It was a very relaxing and wonderful week off. I was on the beach eight straight days with beautiful weather each day. One of my favorite things to do on the beach is read and with all that time I was finally able to finish the fourth Game of Thrones Book, A Feast for Crows, which I first started SEVERAL months ago.

What took me so long? The book is 684 pages long with very tiny print, okay?!

It’s also not the most exciting of books. For one thing, there were no weddings, red, purple or otherwise. On top of that, Tyrion Lannister was not in it. And after the concluding events of the third book, Tyrion was really the character I wanted to know most about. Fortunately he will be back in the fifth book. But with George R. R. Martin, who knows how long he may last. (No spoilers! I have no idea what happens in the fifth book. I’ve only seen the first two seasons of the TV show because I want to read the books first. Although regrettably, I am aware of one major death in the fifth book because it was a major death in the TV show this past season and it was almost impossible to avoid that spoiler because it was all over the internet.)

So how does this relate to LEGO, Cori?! Did you forget what you’re blogging about?

I did not actually. I mentioned it because Game of Thrones fits into the “nerdy” culture of LEGO. Now don’t worry, I use the term nerdy as a term of endearment. Everybody’s nerdy about something, right? But what is stereotypically “nerdy” is usually the coolest, most creative, and most brilliant stuff. Really, the world would be a whole lot less awesome without "nerds."

As far as I can tell, LEGO does not make anything Game of Thrones related. It could be that they don’t have the ability to get a licensing deal, but I’m going to guess 99 percent of the reason is because Game of Thrones is not very kid friendly. (No seriously, in the books, there are multiple children [ages 17 and under] who die horrible deaths and/or witness other atrocious things.) The material itself is also not very kid friendly. I mean the fourth book may not have had any weddings, but it did have….um….that thing people do after their wedding.

Despite the fact that there are no official LEGO Game of Thrones products, in the great big world of LEGO customization, anything is possible. That is where Citizen Brick comes in. Citizen Brick is a company that sells custom printed LEGO and LEGO-compatible products. They have a catalog of regular products, but they also offer custom printing services for people looking for unique collectible or promotional items.

One of their “regular” products is a minifig series made to look like characters from Game of Thrones.

Dragon Sword Fight Force Series

If I am correct, the characters shown are Khal Drogo, Daenerys, the red crazy witch lady, King Joffrey, Tyrion Lannister, that eunuch guy, Jon Snow, Jon Snow’s girlfriend, that evil dead frozen dude, Jamie Lannister, Arya Stark, and Brienne of Tarth.

Please correct me if I’m wrong on those. The series is called the Dragon Sword Fighter Force because obviously Citizen Brick can’t just call it the Game of Thrones series. That could lead to a lawsuit.
If you are interested in buying this series, you can purchase it
here. Be warned though, customization like this does not come cheap. This series sells for $165. Just for 12 minifigs. No LEGO bricks. You do get a cool extra if you are willing to cough up that much though. When buying all 12 minifigs at once, you get a bonus minifig called “Sir Typesalot”.

That’s right, George R. R. Martin gets the LEGO treatment. They even got his big belly just right.

I didn’t do too much research on Game of Thones related LEGO stuff, but it seems to me that this series is the best you’re gonna get if you’re looking for something that combines your love for Game of Thrones with LEGO.

Not having official LEGO GoT products to work with has not stopped people from building MOCs made to look like GoT scenes. Here’s one that we featured on our MOC of the week blog:

Daenerys and the Unsullied

The MOC depicts the scene when Daenerys meets the unsullied. We at BrickWarriors especially loved this creation because the builder used our Lobster Armor and Assassin Masks to give the unsullied their uniformed look.

This MOC’s creator may want to stay tuned to BrickWarriors for new releases that may will make his MOC even better and perhaps more accurate. (Hint, hint)

So have any of you seen good GoT LEGO interpretations? Also, are there any other themes LEGO avoids that leads to some hard-core customization by fans? Let me know!

You know, I wasn’t even going to have a theme for this week’s blog. I was just going to comment on a bunch of LEGO-related topics and call it a day. But this Game of Thrones talk took up a lot of space, so I think I’ll just finish up and make this blog post the Game of Thrones blog. Yay!

Before I go though, I did want to shout out my two commenters from the last post. That’s right, two comments! My whining and passive aggressiveness on my last post worked! For all you kids out there, this is also a great strategy for manipulating your parents… or really anyone. You’re welcome!

Thanks to PClines and Gregory for their comments. Each of them wrote a couple paragraphs too, which went really above and beyond your average internet commentators. Thanks guys!

Another note about my last post: I mentioned that I saw Ant-Man and was wondering if they have any Ant-Man LEGO products. Well I should have known, of course they do! There’s this really awesome set for the final battle in the movie. It includes Antony, who was pretty much my favorite character. Antony, for those that don’t know is the flying ant. I would totally play with this set. I may have to get my bosses to buy it for me as a Labor Day present. That’s a thing, right?

Anyway, thanks for reading everyone! Whether you comment or not, I know that deep down inside you believe this to be the greatest blog of all time.

And I couldn’t agree more!

Until next time…buy that Ant-Man set and send it to me.

P.S. This is what you get when you search for Game of Thrones on the LEGO website. Interesting.

*Compliments, general feedback, and constructive criticism are welcome. Any haters that are gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate can go step on some Lego with their bare feet.*
